Cold Calling The Wrong Way
Author: Alan Richardson
Getting business when you are a Digital Marketing Company can be hard. Cold calling might help, when done correctly.
After all, the people you are targeting probably:
- are not consuming your content,
- are not digital savvy,
- may not have a good understanding the internet.
And that is why they need you.
So cold calling, in your target niche is probably a good strategy when done well.
When I buy a domain name and start a web site, I immediately get calls and emails from people trying to sell me:
- logos
- digital marketing
- content marketing
- social media growth
- etc.
I assume this strategy works, because people use it.
And, while reading this site, you could argue that despite the site topic being Digital Online Marketing, I clearly need help.
But, the people phoning have not looked at the web site, nor do they know anything about me.
When contacting prospects directly, do some research first.
- look at their social media presence
- make notes
- build a profile
- have some ‘suggestions’ and ‘quick wins’ that could offer value to make the conversation worth their while.
This seems like a great approach to target local business, or businesses that you want to work with. Just don’t go in completely cold.
